Colour Works

Work Experience “Colour Works”

For my Year 2 work experience I took part in the “Colour Works” project. Colour Works is a company who work with businesses to hold seminars for company employee’s to introduce them to the system that is “Colour Works”. The idea of the “Colour Works” is that it helps identify a person by a colour, and depending on your colour, they teach you your working methods, and the person that you are, so that you understand your colleagues and find out more about them as a rounded person.
Today there was a small meeting, and the “Colour Works” team gave a small presentation and introduction into who they are and what they do. My first task was to get together with a small number of my course group and discuss the filming day and the equipment we will need to hire out. We spoke to the main leader of the Colour Works and he gave us dates for filming and locations. Between the groups we decided what everyone would be doing on the day.

• Jenny - Organiser, Interviews & Sound
• Janet - Camera Assistant & Transportation
• Kat - Camera Assistant & Team Leader
• Sam - Camera 1
• Megan - Camera Assistant
• Stuart - Event Organiser & Team Leader
• Tom - Camera 2
• Gemma - Camera 3

So for “Colour Works’ I took on the role of Camera 3 which meant that I would be operating the wide shot Camera to capture all the large opening shots. I had to then decide on what additional equipment I would need for the day. My main task for today is to go with Jenny and book out all the equipment and we will also be booking out editing suite, 4 in total so we will have those rooms available for a certain date.

Day 2 “Colour Works”

We held a small meeting today to discuss where and when we will be needed to film and edit. Stuart, our team leader organised through the Colour Works the positioning and how much lighting we will be using. We also decided on a “Reccy” day. The “Reccy” day is where we get an idea on what lighting we will need, the space we have to film and how many people on each camera etc. We decided who was to go on the Reccy and some people nominated themselves to report the findings of the day to the rest of the group.

Day 3 “Colour Works”

Today we discussed with the “Reccy” group on their findings and discussed transport for the equipment. Fortunately a few members of the group have vehicles and we decided that Janet Foster was to take all cameras in her car as she has a large boot and sufficient space. Jenny is also using her car and taking me, Kat and Rob to the Bournemouth hotel. Today we are discussion times, and job roles and trying to equal out the work load so that it is fair on all of us getting the relevant experience.

Day 4 “Colour Works”

This morning we had a meeting with the main “Colour Work” manager and unfortunately there was a lack of interest in the Colour Works through businesses and a total of 16 people were to attend. All equipment has been put on hold till further notice and all editing suite will need to be un-booked. At the present time all Colour Works work will suspend until further notice.

…………………………. UPDATE ……………………………………

The Colour Works project will be going ahead but at another date. The Colour Works leader has organised a shoot of 3rd May 2006 at the Nova Tell Hotel in Southampton. So all equipment will need to be re hired for this date, and the editing suites re booked for after shoot day. These are the main task for today, and a meeting will be held in 30 minutes to re discuss and organise the shoot day of 3rd May.

Day 5 “Colour Works”

Today was the shoot day for “Colour Works. Firstly we all needed to meet up at the College Car park as we had arranged that 3 people would be driving on the day, Sam, Janet & Jenny. This is an issue we will need to mention, as the “Drivers” will be getting compensation for travel costs on the day. So after we all met up we had to travel to the hotel in Southampton and start setting up the equipment an hour before shoot.
When we first got there, we all got into our job roles fairly quickly and Janet and I worked on setting up camera 3, positioned at the back of the hall as to get a wide shot of the audience. Once all set up, we had 10 minutes to organise on the spot interviews as it was something we had suspended when Colour works was fist called off, so we used 2 members of the production team and interviewed 6 different people before show and also we interviewed them after the show. During the shoot, it was my main role to capture the audience walking into the room and out, and as I was closest to the door this worked well, using different panning shots of the audience taking their seats.
Fortunately there weren’t any special techniques that I had to follow and I operated the Camera and had Janet checking the sound through the headphones.

……………………… Post Colour Works …………………………………

After the seminar was over, we had to re pack all the equipment and have it all loaded into the cars to bring back to the college. Now we will be meeting up to organise the editing of the day and packaging it all into a promotional DVD Rom, which is the product, we will be presenting to our client.
